THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

Seven years ago this summer my son James and I joined thousands of pilgrims on the way to the Shrine of St James at Santiago de Compostela in North Spain.  We carried our possessions on our backs for a  week to tread the path from refuge hut to refuge hut, caught up with the joyous enthusiasm of our companions.

The way of St James has been literally made smooth by the feet that have trodden it for 11 centuries.  It is a symbol of the well-trodden path of Christian believing.  In a fast changing world there is so much to distract us from the Lord's way.  By treading the Camino we were reinforcing our desire to keep on another more vital and joyful path which ends in the house of the Lord himself.

As we trod a path worn smooth by saints through the ages we were able to praise God for the scriptures and creeds, the sacraments and prayer all of which bring us close to Jesus.

The guidance of the well-trodden path leads to the beautiful Cathedral of Santiago with its 'Pórtico' or 'Door of Glory' through days or weeks of foot-slogging.  So may God's people persevere in their pilgrimage, keeping to the sure path which makes the Saviour their companion!

SUNDAY CLUB AND CRECHE

A creche & Sunday club is held in St Giles School.

We are running an all-age Sunday Club each Sunday at 10am except if there is an all-age family service in the church.

Choir girls robe and sit together in church but during the sermon they have their own teaching in the vestry.

Children who are not in the choir can be dropped off in the school hall from 9.50am. For them we offer a creche/pre-school group and a primary school-age group. To find out more ring Chris on 790467.
