Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals

Baptisms

Villagers are welcome to celebrate the Christian baptism of their children at St Giles and the first step is making an appointment with Fr David. If you would like to find out more about what is involved in the baptism service, the Church of England have again produced a useful step-by-step guide, which you can view by clicking here.

Thanksgiving for the birth of a child is an alternative service in which no promises of church membership are made. There is no fee for either service.

Weddings

St Giles is available to villagers for Christian marriage or for a dedication service after civil marriage. If you are not currently resident in the Parish you can still get married at St Giles if one of you:

  • has at any time lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months
  • was baptised (christened) in the parish concerned
  • is confirmed and your confirmation was entered in the register of confirmations for the church
  • has at any time regularly gone to normal church services in St Giles for a period of at least 6 months
  • has a parent who has lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months since you were born
  • has a parent who has regularly gone to normal church services in St Giles for a period of at least 6 months since you were born

The Church of England website contains a good deal of helpful information about marriages, including a concise guide you can view by clicking here

The Martindale Centre is a cost-effective possibility for the reception and the village also has two good pubs. There are, or course, many other venues suitable for wedding receptions in the surrounding area.

There are statutory, and other, fees for weddings. As an option, the Church has a team which can provide supplementary flower arrangements, to the couple's specification, at reasonable cost.

Funerals & Memorial Services

Any villager can receive Christian funeral rites in St Giles or in the Churchyard. There are statutory fees.
